“Partnering boosted fuel sales at targeted sites — and helped support frontline staff.”

Qbtech UK is a market-leading provider of innovative, objective tests for assessing and treating ADHD, changing the landscape of ADHD care. The company’s mission is to improve the lives of people with ADHD by offering digital and clinical solutions that enhance clinical decision-making, service efficiency, and patient experience. Jo Barosa, Account Director at Qbtech UK, shares insights into the company’s work and its impact on ADHD care.
QbTest is a NICE-recommended, FDA-cleared, and CE-marked objective testing system that provides essential data on the core symptoms of ADHD. These symptoms form the basis for diagnostic criteria in both DSM-5 and ICD-11. The test compares patient results with a normative database matched by age and gender, enabling clinicians to better understand the clinical significance of ADHD symptoms. This approach improves the accuracy of diagnosis and supports better clinical decision-making.
One of the key benefits of QbTest is its ability to reduce inter-rater bias, a common issue that can delay diagnosis and cause inefficiency in clinical settings. Timely diagnosis is crucial, as ADHD can severely impact education, social interactions, and overall quality of life.
To ensure the highest standards in implementing and delivering the QbTest, Qbtech offers a rigorous training programme and ongoing clinical supervision through support calls with their dedicated Clinical Advisor team.
As part of the NHS England-sponsored Focus ADHD national programme, Qbtech has worked with all 15 Health Innovation Networks across the UK. This programme, which has benefitted over 77,000 children and young people, builds on the Real-World Demonstrator project led by the East Midlands Health Innovation team. The goal is to support NHS mental health trusts and community paediatric services in improving ADHD assessments by implementing QbTest as an objective measure.
Through collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Institute of Mental Health, the ADHD Foundation, and NHS England, Qbtech is helping to improve ADHD care nationally. Based on the success of the UK programme, Qbtech is now expanding its work across Europe and the USA, providing valuable data and improving the profile of ADHD care globally.
In the early days, finding partners who were open to adopting innovative approaches to ADHD care was a challenge. “As with all innovations, nobody wants to be the first to adopt,” Jo explains. However, by making research a core part of the company’s strategy, Qbtech built confidence among clinicians and trust staff, aligning their goals to revolutionise ADHD care. Now, with over 20 years of experience, Qbtech is in nearly 80% of NHS trusts and has a significant presence in private practice, making them a leader in the field.
At Qbtech, innovation never stops. With the number of patients seeking ADHD assessments growing every year, the company is dedicated to developing new models, resources, and solutions to meet the increasing demand on NHS services. Jo stresses that the same models of care cannot be applied if we want different outcomes, and the team is committed to finding new ways to support the healthcare system as a whole.
Working with their in-house medical, research, and development teams, Qbtech is currently developing new products that will benefit both patients and clinical services, extending their impact beyond the clinic.
Jo takes great pride in hearing about the positive impact QbTest has had on patients, clinicians, and services. “There is nothing better than hearing how QbTest has made a difference, and knowing that both myself and the company have helped people understand their condition,” she says. This direct connection to the difference Qbtech is making is deeply rewarding for Jo, and it drives her passion for improving ADHD care.
Her role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, from care pathway consultation and business development to lecturing on service efficiency and ADHD. After 13 years in the role, Jo remains passionate about all aspects of ADHD care, and her dedication fuels her efforts to challenge the status quo and improve care for those who need it most.
